More than 1,500 physicists have graduated from its classrooms, guided by academics of the highest level, who constitute a scientific community that locates the DFC, and that is among the best physics departments in the country and as a national and international landmark.

Our Mission

To train physicists of excellence. Strengthen the existing research areas in Chile and create new ones, anticipating the country’s future requirements in institutional and national interest fields. The latter is compatible with the need to increase the number of scientists in Chile which is currently below the requests to support R&D processes that allow the country to continue growing economically and socially.

Our Vision

To be a national and international landmark as a Department of Physics, constituted by excellent researchers with the best undergraduate training and high-impact postgraduate degrees, including a large number of scholarship students.
